Are you looking for a diet that does not include fancy meal plans? Or one that doesn’t require you to scour specialty grocery stores to eat? This diet is the simplest diet you will probably ever hear about. Because it is similar to the way you already eat. Only healthier.

The DASH Diet

DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. This diet is based on research sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). DASH was developed to lower high blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease. Now it is simply a healthier way to eat. Major medical centers across the U.S. support the DASH diet.

Focusing on fresh produce and fat-free or low-fat dairy, following this diet limits your consumption of red meats, sweets, sodium, and sugary drinks. These are all things that are bad for you anyways. And you probably already know you should limit your intake. Instead, eating more fish and poultry. As well as more whole grains, nuts, seeds, and beans.

Following this diet plan does not involve expensive trips to the grocery store. As a matter of fact, you probably already have most of the recommended foods in your kitchen already.

Portion size is also another important factor for following this diet. Portion sizes in the U.S. have reached epic proportions, but this diet advises whittling back to more manageable sizes.

One of the biggest appeals about this diet is that it does not outright ban any type of food. Only advises limiting foods that are unhealthy. The goal is to keep a healthy balance in your body and in your eating habits.

Final Thoughts

This is the simplest diet you will ever have to follow because it is the way you already eat. You don’t have to make a major overhaul to your eating palate. Simply make healthier decisions about what you already eat.
