Smart Low Carb Lunch Ideas

On a low carb diet and not sure what to bring for lunch? Many people struggle with this meal because the classic sandwich is obviously a no-go. So what are your best options? What can you use to fuel yourself during the day?

Here are some smarter low carb lunch ideas to consider.

Chicken Salad

Salads are a great fill-in for a sandwich. The nice thing about salads is that it’s very easy to get 3-4 servings of fruits and vegetables all in one meal. Don’t forget the protein on your salad though. That’s a big mistake too many people make. Combine a few cups of salad greens with 3 oz. grilled chicken breast, a handful of fresh berries, some walnuts or pecans, and then top with an olive oil based salad dressing.

Tex Mex Tuna

Canned tuna is a perfect lunchtime protein source because you simply open it up and dish it onto your plate. But, if you’ve ever tasted plain tuna, you know that it leaves much to be desired.

Try dressing up that tuna by simply adding some salsa, a little bit of reduced fat cheddar cheese, and a small handful of kernel corn for sweetness. The corn won’t add that many carbs but will drastically improve the taste. Serve some avocado on the side if desired.

Lettuce Wraps

Lettuce wraps are another great go-to that you’ll want to include in your diet plan. They’re easy to prepare – use the same ingredients you would for a sandwich only swap the bread for large pieces of lettuce instead.

It’s a great light meal that will have you feeling energized rather than sleepy after so many carbs.

So keep these three low carb lunch ideas in mind. Each one will nourish your body well and help fuel you through your day.
