3 Healthy Breakfast Choices That Aren’t the Usual Suspects

Since many people are in a rush in the mornings, it’s easy for them to fall prey to less-than-healthy breakfast options. This usually means something you can get at a fast food window, like a greasy English muffin or on the sweeter side, a bun or roll that’s really better suited for dessert.

Some people may even make a concession to health, grabbing a yogurt cup or granola bar that’s not as healthy as they might think. Many of them are packed with sugar.

So in a world with so many bad choices, what can you do to make it easier? Well, the good news is that there are grab-and-go options for breakfast that are just as tasty as the usual suspects, but won’t blow your diet.

#1. Leftovers

This may seem odd, especially if you’re in the mindset that only certain foods are for breakfast. The truth is, though, any food’s for any time. So if you enjoyed dinner the night before, there’s no reason why you can’t have it again for breakfast.

#2. Overnight Oats

If you’ve been wanting to try overnight oats, there’s no time like the present. You can easily mix the ingredients in a mason jar the night before and it’s ready to go in the morning. To find a recipe, think of the oatmeal that you especially like and search for a recipe, like peaches and cream oatmeal, for example. Apple cinnamon. Maple and brown sugar. The choices are endless. You could even make it savory.

#3. Breakfast salad

Again, this may seem like a weird idea, but there’s no real rules out there that say you can’t have salad for breakfast. They can be made the night before, like overnight oats, but if you don’t get the chance, it’s easy to throw one together in the morning. At the very least, all you need is greens, a protein, and a dressing. Throw in fruit, moderate cheese, and/or nuts and seeds for extra flavor and nutrients.
